2020 loan exhibit

Presented by the Winterthur Museum

This year’s loan exhibit, entitled, Icons of America: George Washington and Beyond will be provided by the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. Eye-catching and iconic imagery of George Washington, eagles, and natural wonders that symbolized the new nation at home and abroad will be on view in this exhibition of fine and decorative artworks. Inspired by the theme, Iconic George!, the exhibition will include portraits of America’s first president as well as the eagle and the shield of the Great Seal as reproduced internationally on ceramics, glass, textiles, and other goods. America’s natural wonders, particularly Niagara Falls, were drawn and painted by visiting artists from Europe, reappearing as published prints or ornament in a broad range of media.
