From the Foreword of The Young Man and the Tree:
“I met Fernando Wong on the set of a television series called Clipped. We had been selected as two of three judges who would decide the fates of several topiary artists recruited to compete in a shrub shaping topiary competition! Fernando and I immediately hit it off, realizing that we spoke the same language, “serious gardener tongue,” Fernando with a Spanish accent and I with my New Jersey/New York college girl intonations. As we discussed the presentations of the contestants, it occurred to me that Fernando actually knew an awful lot about shrubs but also a lot about landscaping and landscape design.”
