The weekend’s event will feature the captivating loan exhibit, “Celebrating English Arts and Crafts Gardens — Then and Now,” inviting visitors to explore the enchanting world of structured yet romantic English gardens that embody the essence of craftsmanship. Highlighting the distinctive “garden rooms” defined by harmonious blend of geometric design with informal plantings, the exhibit showcases English gardens from their historical roots to contemporary interpretations.
Caroline Mesrobian Hickman teaches American Architecture in the School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Historic Preservation at the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on the architecture of Washington, DC, during the first half of the 20th century. Passionate about the intersection of nature, landscape, and architecture, she recently celebrated the legacy of Frederick Law Olmsted through her collaboration with the National Association for Olmsted Parks and the Oak Spring Garden Foundation on the “Olmsted 200 Exhibit.”
